800 Meters on a Cable Way- Teleferico Puerto Plata'

As many of you may know, your girl is Dominican. Un Dominicana de pura sepa. I was born in the Dominican Republic and moved to New York at the age of 8. Ever since I moved here I have been visiting DR every year. Each time I try to make strides to finding new adventures to explore my country a bit more. We tend to forget that our home countries have so much richness and gems. On my last trip I got to do something I’ve been meaning to do for a long time now.

“El Teleférico de Puerto Plata” is located on Mountain Isabel de Torres and it takes you 800 Meters up the mountain. The cableway cart takes you up to see ‘The Cristo Redentor” which is a beautiful statue at the top of the mountain. Since 1971 people had been traveling in cars and in 1974 the initial trips of the cable way began bringing people up to the Statue and the newly created “Jardin Botanico y Fuentes”. This being a garden home to many species of birds and about 594 species of plants.

My experience was one that I will never find enough words to describe. The view from the mountain is one that can never be unseen again. A combination of the beach, the city and surrounding mountains come together to give you the perfect breathtaking view. The staff is super outgoing and generous from the ticketing agent to the man who rides up the mountain with you. I was able to pick his brain while going up and he told me that the Teleferico only works when weather permits. In case of emergencies they have back up generators to get the carts to operate back to safe grounds. The carts fit anywhere from 8-12 people at a time. The service is available from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Adults pay $10 dollars and kids $5 dollars for anyone under 4 years old they ride for free.

At the top you are greeted by many tour guides that will take you to difference locations on the mountain. We decide to just go to the Cristo Redentor statue and visit a few shops. At the statue we got to take very cool pictures assisted by a gentleman on site who obviously has gotten enough angle practices for the perfect shot. My family and I really enjoyed the experience.

Make sure on your next trip to the Dominican Republic, Puerto Plata you make a quick stop at this attraction. I promise you will forever cherish the time there.
